A FYLDE pensioner has been conned out of £35,000 savings by heartless "bullies" running an international lottery racket.
The elderly man was duped by the offer of a multi-million pound jackpot.

But the prize – like the fictitious lottery – never existed.

The deception came to light only after the unnamed victim paid out thousands in administration fees including tax, security, insurance and payment release.

Trading Standards officers have launched a major investigation to track down the scammers and are calling for a change in the law to make sending fraudulent material through the post a criminal offence.

County Coun Marcus Johnstone said: "Direct mail scams, usually operating from abroad, are a growing menace to unsuspecting Lancashire citizens.

"These lottery bullies are very persistent and can threaten and intimidate vulnerable people. A change in the law is
required to stop these overseas fraudulent letters being delivered to
Lancashire doorsteps."

Hilarious. I'm not sure it is possible to be bullied by my mail, by someone in another country, is it?

Rand, spot on.

I might start one myself.

being elderly, frail or simply gullible does not mean you deserve to be a victim of this sort of crime. there are many others who have also succumbed to this sort of scam and they are not old or stupid. its easy in hindsight to realise you cant win a competition you've never entered but also we are bombarded by junk mail telling us similar stories from catalogues etc and they are legit

Proof age and wisdom do not go hand in hand. You very rarely hear of anyone or the younger generation getting conned in this way.

It makes me wonder when I hear of pensioners crying poverty. So many seem to have the odd tens of thousands put away.
